HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Just a short note this morning, before I head out to the Thanksgiving Day parade.  I just wanted to wish everyone a very happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday.  Mom and I are headed off to the parade downtown this morning in just a few minutes, and then it's off to the relatives.  "Over the river and through the woods, to Auntie's house we go..." This year, it isn't expected to be quite as cold!  I remember last year, the wind was blowing and it was bitter cold sitting on the side of the road.  Today, we're actually expecting 40s.  Chilly enough to make it seasonal, but not cold enough to be painful!  Luckily, our usual spot is located just down from Starbucks!

So, enjoy the turkey, stuffing, pie, and all the wonderful fixin's.

CTMH TV Introduces Art & Soul

Close To My Heart has started a wonderful new program called Art and Soul!  Simply visit my CTMH website and check out CTMH TV.  Every other Tuesday a new Art & Soul episode will launch every with an estimated minimum of 20 different episodes.  Each new episode of the Art & Soul show has been created to teach tips and techniques while jointly showcasing the amazing Close To My Heart products.

 

Each Art & Soul show ranges in length from 12-15 minutes long. The length allows us to showcase one complete “focus” project, along with some other fun tip and techniques, and words from our founder and CEO, Jeanette Lynton. The segments are detailed but fast moving, keeping a viewer’s interest for the length of the episode.  The great thing about this is that you can stop, pause and rewind each episode as needed so that you can recreate the great projects and layouts.

Each episode will contain at least one project that is completed from beginning to end. The project takes approximately 7-10 minutes to view. Complete instructions and recipes for this project will be available on my MyCTMH website. And here's the best part ... A specially selected "bundle" of products needed to make the project will be available for sale through my MyCTMH website at an approximate 20% discount!  You will see all of the necessary ordering information at the end of each webisode segment.  In addition to the complete project, a variety of smaller tip and technique segments will be shown and will vary depending on the content of the episode.

Still Celebrating!!!

I am so very proud today, to be an American citizen! I can proudly hold my head high and loudly proclaim, "Barack Obama is MY President!" I was very moved by his speech last night and the sense of pride and honor I've seen today from my students, from passersby at the store, and from strangers at the gas station.

My students amazed me this morning!  More than 75% of my fifth grade class stayed up last night to watch the election returns on television.  Okay, so there were a lot of sleepy eyes this morning, and I had to work extra hard to keep them awake, but you've never seen anything to be more proud of than a group of 22 ten and eleven year olds discussing contemporary politics and the importance of this year's presidential election.  They were excited and proud of the history being made right in front of their eyes.  I know that in my classroom alone, I saw a few backs sitting up straighter in their chairs, a few pairs of eyes with a renewed sparkle, and a curiosity I've never seen in my 10 years of teaching.  History was made last night in MY country as MY president was elected, and MY kids can say that they were there!

In the so eloquent words of our President Elect, "So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism; of service and responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other. ... Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long. Let us remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the Republican Party to the White House – a party founded on the values of self-reliance, individual liberty, and national unity. Those are values we all share, and while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress. As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, 'We are not enemies, but friends…though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection.' "

A New Day Has Arrived!

 

I have only voted in seven presidential elections, but none of them has ever moved me the way this election has!  I sat alone in my living room, watching the election returns - something I have never before done.  I felt flutters in my stomach every time the polls were updated - excitement and nerves.  I found myself watching as the numbers changed in each of the states.  Some of them fluctuating back and forth.  But my biggest surprise came when ABC announced that they were projecting Senator Obama had won enough electoral votes to be declared President Elect.  I cried!  Tears of joy, excitement, and most of all...tears of hope.  My country has spoken.  All men are created equal.  I am proud to say that my candidate will be not only the next U.S. President, but will also be the first African American to be elected President.  How lucky I am to be an American citizen.  How lucky I am to have the responsibility to vote.
